Better River Basins

WWF, supported by HSBC, has developed Better River Basins as part of the UK Natural Rivers programme. This programme is developing innovative techniques for the management and restoration or rivers and wetlands for the benefit of people and nature.

UK Natural Rivers is a component of HSBC's global Investing in Nature partnership. Investing in Nature was announced in 2002 and is a $50million, five-year programme to support three leading environmental charities - Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGSI), Earthwatch Institute and WWF. Common to them all is a commitment to finding long-term solutions to environmental problems.

As part of Investing in Nature, HSBC invested £12.7million in WWF's freshwater programme, which includes projects in Brazil, China, Mexico and the UK. These funds are helping to breathe life into three of the worlds largest rivers, develop a blueprint to guide European freshwater management, and support the people and biodiversity that depend on freshwater.
